QUESTIONS

Due to the circumstance of the death of Bl. Sara, no physical remains have been preserved and therefore first-degree relics are not available. Sister Sara died a martyr during World War II in Budapest. She was shot on the banks of the Danube with her colleague Vilma Bernovits and a group of Jewish women she was hiding. Their bodies were thrown into the icy Danube. At that time, Budapest was besieged by Russian troops with constant bombing. The city itself was under the control of the Germans and their allies – the Hungarian Nazis. During this period, countless bodies were thrown into the Danube, which abducted the corpses of innocent civilians, convicted members of the anti-German union and fallen soldiers. In her hometown of Košice, her name is engraved on the tombstone of her parents. However, her remains are waiting to be resurrected in an unknown place.

After the war, the communist regime entered and church life had to be withdrawn underground. What belonged to the church was confiscated or destroyed. However, what has almost miraculously preserved is her cilicium. It’s a great treasure for our community, so we don’t give it away bit by bit as a relic to the public.

We are able to send a holy picture with her photo, which also contains a small piece of canvas that touched her cilicium, so it is a relic of the 3rd degree.
