MEMORIAL PLAQUE | Budapest, Hungary

At the place of Sara´s martyrdom on the banks of the Danube in Budapest a memorial plaque was unveiled in 2001, commemorating the sacrifice of the life of Sara and Vilma Bernovits, who was violently murdered along with her by the Nazis.

In 2008, a plaque in memory of sister Sara Salkahazi was blessed in Bokréta Street, the text of which reads as follows: Sister Sára Salkaházi was deported from this place on December 27, 1944 to the site of her martyrdom. During World War II, blessed Sára Salkaházi hid nearly a hundred persecuted people in the Catholic Women’s Home operating under Bokréta u. 3.

CHURCH OF BL. SARA SALKAHAZI | Újpalota, Hungary

On December 27, 2008, Cardinal Péter Erdo consecrated a newly built church dedicated to Bl. Sara Salkahazi in Ujpalota, Budapest. On the mosaic wall there are depictions of Hungarian saints among them Bl. Sara (bottom right), who are participating in the transfiguration of the Lord along with the apostles. The mosaic also includes pieces of stones from the banks of the Danube where Sr Sara was murdered.

SARA SALKAHAZI PARK | Budapest, Hungary

In the center of Budapest, behind the Church of Perpetual Adoration, between Viola and Bokréta Streets, where sister Sara spent the last years of her life, there is a park named after her. It was opened in 2009 and also includes a memorial to the 1956 revolution and civil war..

THE STATUE | Kosice, Slovakia

​In Kosice, in the Cathedral of St. Elisabeth, where Bl Sara Salkahazi was baptized in 1899, there is a memorial statue which depicts Sara in the waves of the Danube, pressing the cross of Christ to her heart.

STATUES | Turna nad Bodvou, Slovakia

In the two villages, Turna nad Bodvou and Turnianska Nová Ves, near the Hungarian border and also near the hometown of Bl. Sara, there are statues of Bl. Sara from the workshop of Janos Lukacs.

MEMORIAL PLAQUE | Kosice, Slovakia

On Masarykova street 19 in Kosice there is Regina Pacis house, founded in 1927 by Sister Margaret Slachta, which until 2017 served as the Central House of the Slovak District of the Society of the Sisters of Social Service. In this building sister Sara lived for several years of her life and there can be found her memorial plaque as well.

THE TREE OF HONOR AND GRATITUDE | Jerusalem, Israel

For their heroic love the Israeli government awarded Sister Margaret Slachta and Sister Sara Salkahazi “In memoriam” and in 1972 a tree of gratitude was planted in the garden of Yad Vashem, Israel’s largest Holocaust memorial.
